Dell committed to offer cutting edge IT solutions to support West Bengal 'Digital India' and e-Gov vision

Dell, the world’s fastest-growing integrated IT Company, in partnership with CyberMedia Research (CMR), recently concluded the ‘Government Connect Conference’ in Kolkata. The programme sought to emphasise the need for deploying future-ready IT infrastructure, thereby improving government functioning and also understand the pain-points and solutions pertaining to IT infrastructure for government stakeholders in the region.
As per ‘IT Pulse’ – a survey conducted before the conference to understand the challenges faced by stakeholders in adopting technology - West Bengal has emerged as the new dominant IT hub. With sound awareness around new technological solutions such as data centre, storage, cloud, security, etc., Webel has introduced significant computerization at various levels in several government departments and directorates. The e-Governance initiatives in the state cover the entire spectrum of interfaces including telemedicine, education, agriculture, civic issues, employment, etc.
With this as a reference point, Dell used the Government Connect Conference at Kolkata as a platform to create awareness among decision makers, IT departments and their workforce on the transformational role of IT in nation building and achieving critical governance goals. Additionally, the conference created an opportunity to discuss the development of ICT infrastructure and solutions mandated by the Digital India initiative, future-proofing of ICT infrastructure and the National e-Governance Plan.
Government Connect is Dell’s year-long outreach program themed “Future-ready IT, for future-ready government” and conducted as a joint initiative with CMR, South Asia’s leading ICT, ESDM and Lifesciences industry marketing Services Company. The Kolkata chapter was preceded by similar conferences in Lucknow, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Bangalore.
“West Bengal has shown incredible acceptance to E-governance and has been a threshold to government initiatives like Digital India and schemes implemented in tune with the NeGP. This is bound to create phenomenal change in areas such as healthcare, education, creation of employment opportunities, citizen services, etc. Dell is excited to partner Webel, to create Future Ready IT solutions for a future ready government”, stated Raman Bountra, Business Leader – Government Sales, Dell India.
Commenting on the partnership, Thomas George, Senior Vice President, CMR said, “We are happy to receive the whole-hearted support of West Bengal's nodal IT agency, WEBEL and our technology partner, Dell. We are committed to encourage debate on and adoption of scalable ICT infrastructure and solutions, to deliver ease and convenience to citizens, customers and stakeholders. We believe the coming months and years will see many transformative models emerge, as a result of successful collaboration between government organisations, India’s vast and vibrant public sector and technology vendors.”
“Building Digital infrastructure is a key for India to achieve the ‘Digital India’ and ‘Make in India’ vision. With INR 450,000 Crore of investment announced by government, there is tremendous opportunity for hardware providers, network providers, service firms, application and platform developers to form a nexus across various independent technologies and taking them to the next level, be it in smart learning, smart healthcare, smart transportation, smart energy and others. Almost all sectors will be impacted by digital infrastructure and advancement expected in big data & analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), connected mobility, storage, silicon, content technology ecosystem. Digital infrastructure has the potential to transform industries and segments which will be possible only through collaborative participation between government, industry associations and private players all coming together”, said Debopam Raha, Technical Director, Infrastructure & Government Services (IGS) - KPMG Advisory Services Private Limited, while speaking at the event.
Dell has been engaging with the Indian Government over the last 6 years and has successfully executed projects across various geographies. Dell has worked in various government projects such as Crime and Criminal Tracking Networks and Systems (CCTNS), IGRS, e-Panchayat, e-District, etc. which have been rolled out successfully across different parts of the country.
